One Long Weekend

As an Arts student, I'm very used to having a lot of unstructured learning time, reading and researching and setting my own timings for everything. In my final semester, I had 4 hours in class each week, on Mondays and Tuesdays, and so I effectively had an inverted 5/2 split. However, until now all those free hours could easily be filled by the aforementioned studying. In my new found freedom, with nothing to speak of in terms of deadlines, my 'to do' has been severely shortened. On the pin-board I kept my revision timetable on, the final days have 'freedom' hastily scrawled over them. But I am not the kind of person who does well with long stretches of time with no definite plans. Mercifully this stretch is only a couple of weeks long, and interspersed with waitress shifts. I'm seeing it as a warm-up to the summer, although I intend to find a summer job to fill my days and pockets with.

These are the final days of living in Swansea, and so I'm going to use them to do all the things I always meant to do, but never quite got round to, or things that I haven't done in a while and really ought to do again before I leave. Of course, some of them, like the Mumbles Farmers Market, are frustratingly time-dependent, and so will have to wait until June, but I have a couple of things lined up to keep myself occupied, as well as the usual rounds of work, baking, and packing.

  • Take the time to really explore the Swansea Indoor Market, to nose at the book stalls and buy locally produced fudge, fruit and veg (asparagus has just come into season!)
  • Snoop around Derrick's Music and pick up a couple of CDs that I've been meaning to buy, for myself and for presents
  • Check out the Botanical Gardens in Singleton Park
  • Have (another!) Ice Cream Sundae, either at Joe's or Verdi's
  • Enjoy the beaches along the Gower - Rhossili is a personal favourite, but Three Cliffs Bay is also lovely, and hopefully I'll visit both over the next three weeks, if the weather holds
