Break-Up Cake

I haven't technically gone through a break-up, it just feels like it, and there isn't a recipe for this cake, but today I adhered to my best friend's rule of break-ups - eat cake. It's reminiscent of some of the final lines of Marty McConnell's poem, Frida Kahlo to Marty McConnell -
"Don't lose too much weight.
Stupid girls are always trying
to disappear as revenge, and you
are not stupid. You loved a man"
Not that this is encouragement to eat badly, it's just to say that sometimes, cake - in this case peanut butter and chocolate cupcakes drenched in chocolate fudge frosting - goes some way towards lifting the heaviness that weighs on your heart. Shop first, but when that hasn't worked, make cake your next port of call.

The only problem I find with break-up cake is that baking always goes much smoother when you're happy. Although these are wonderful taste-wise, they are, alas, a little dry. But, teamed with clotted cream and strawberries, they're making these lonely evenings a little less depressing...
